Chatting, or rather sms-ing through the media has become a routine in Tamil Nadu. The latest is an appeal to the management of Residential Schools. Guess who made the appeal? None other than the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He chose the Newspapers to send his sms to all the residential schools. He appealed to them to admit maximum(sic) number of Adi Dravidar and Tribal children in their institution (sic). All that the CM could have done was to call for a meeting of the Heads of the Residential Schools and to tell them to admit these students. Perhaps he wanted the public to know his Government’s policy. May be, he desired that this message should get maximum prominence. That is why he didn’t choose the routine method of issuing a press note.

Another appeal, this time made to the Chief Minister appeared in Tamil papers. This was by the residents of the marvel Riverview County Township at Tharapakkam. This is an easy way of getting across to the CM. The families in Tharapakkam, Gerugampakkam and Manapakkam areas, which are likely to be affected by the proposed Airport Expansion work have bought it to his notice, through this ad that if the cross runway alone is extended, no family will be affected. When the Government has started land acquisition work in Sriperumputhur for the Greenfield Airport, where is the necessity for a Second runway in the existing airport? By extending the cross runway, the handling capacity of the airport will increase to fifty air services per hour. And, this would be enough until 2015-16, even according to the Ministry of Civil aviation. Their argument is too long for this chronicle.
Incidentally, the Madras high Court had dismissed their petitions in March and directed the Kanchipuram District Collector to initiate land acquisition proceedings.
Chennai, which is in the midst of a heat wave, will have a world of snow, spread over fifteen thousand square feet at the island grounds. For those who are not tall, admission to this snow drenched shopping experience will be cheaper. The ad says: Child below 4’6” height is eligible for Rs 50/- (as against Rs 100) and Free for children below 2’6” height!!(sic)
Kamal’s Dasavatharam might really have six avatharams – in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Japanese and Chinese!!
