Prisoners of varied religion, caste and creed
sit together and listen attentively when Rajeswari holds pravachanam or
religious discourses. The scene we are talking about is at the Puzhal
central prison. She holds these discourses monthly once in the mornings at
Puzhal.

So how did Rajeswari bag this opportunity? Says Rajeswari, “ I read in
newspapers that the Jail officials are holding yoga sessions and personality
development sessions at the Puzhal prison. That is when I thought I can do
some discourses there and I sent an application to Mr.Natarajan, DGP. He
then gave the green signal and that is how I started these discourses 8
months back.”
Rajeswari also held a Women’s Special session at the prison where
everybody listened with attention and silence. Prisoners having death
sentence, life sentence and remanded people clapped their hands with
holiness. “It was a good opportunity for me to go there and speak to those
people. It was all a barren land and I got the chance to lay the seeds and
shower water into it. Makes me feel great!” She holds these discourses
monthly once in the mornings at Puzhal and nobody is forced to come and
listen. So how does she do these discourses to these prisoners? “Mine is in
the story form where I tell them age old mythological stories which teach
them values. I then explain the meaning to them. The whole session happens
for an hour or two.”
Rajeswari got immensely happy when she received a letter from the Puzhal
prison stating that the officials are able to see fruitful changes in the
prisoners and they believe that these prisoners will not commit any mistakes
anymore in future.
