The heartland of music-Chennai resonates with Sapthaswaras and the strong musical flavor stirs the senses as another edition of Bharat Sangeet Utsav kick started the December music season well in advance. Carnatic Archival Center of Music and Dance in association with Parthasarathy Swami Sabha one of the oldest sabhas in the city focuses in propagating our priceless treasure music and dance by bringing together the creme de la creme of artistes from Uttara and Dakshina Bharat under one roof.
Ramanathan Iyer, director of Carnatica a technocrat and an aficionado of music , desires to treat the connoisseurs, cognoscenti and layman with music by roping in stalwarts and budding artistes who excel in their streams. Sashikiran co founder of Carnatica aims at showcasing the latent talents of the youngsters by providing them a platform to perform. They have instituted a music Connoisseurs award from this year and the award function will be held in glittering ceremony. Violin virtuoso Lalgudi Jayaraman has been conferred the Life Time achievement award this year. Doyens like Nedanuri Krishnamurthi and M S Gopalakrishnan will add color to the utsav.
The Pan Indian music festival ushered in the music season on October 30th with a galaxy of personalities like Father Gaspar Raj , director of Tamil Maiyam, industrialist L. Sabaretnam, ace dancer Padma Subramanyam, and Shivakumar of RMKV silks gracing the inaugural function. The inaugural day saw a veena recital by Pt . VishwaMohan Bhatt a Vainika par excellence who caressed the instrument with his sensitive fingers on the frets.
Sanjay Subramaniam and the versatile T N Seshagopalan set the tone and tenor for the music festival Another shining star in the musical firmament who held the audience captive was Sikkil Gurucharan. Vijay Siva of a renowned musical lineage sustained the interest of rasikas with his incredible repertoire. MS Gopalakrishnan who is adept in both the styles of music drenched the gathering with his musical showers.
Bharat Sangeet Utsav is a musical confluence of genres setting the tone for the December music season in Chennai and will be on till Nov.9th.
