109 years later and he is still in our minds! It was an occasion to remember the contributions of Kalki Krishnamurthy, a freedom fighter, nationalist writer and novelist. The Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Awards were distributed to two young artists at the Bharatiya Vidyabhavan Auditorium here on Tuesday on the 109th birth anniversary of Kalki Krishnamurthy
The editor of Dinamani, Mr. K. Vaidhyanathan graced the occasion with his presence and presented the awards to singer Gayathri K, and mridangam player, Ganapathy Raman. Comparing his invitation to be present at the occasion, to a Nobel Prize, Mr. Vaidhyanathan was all praises for Kalki and his contributions to the literary world. "Kalki was a great man who commanded respect from all walks of life. His works can be compared to those of Bharathi's with regards to the continuous effort that is put into his writings. In the 19th century when novels were not accepted, every person who read one of Kalki's books always made sure to read all. He gave importance not only to views, but also to news"
Besides the artists, their gurus, Mrs. Suguna Purushottaman and Shri Rangarajapuram Jayaraman were also honoured. Also present during the function was Mr. Kalki Rajendran, son of Kalki.
