Malladi brothers Sriram Prasad and Ravikumar enthralled the audience with their melodious voice at the Hayagreevar temple in the city recently. They had an interesting line up of compositions after invoking the presiding deity of the temple Hayagreevar with a sloka in hamsadhwani. The brothers slipped smoothly into a Varnam in the same raga -Jalaja .
A crisp Aalapana of Surutti was followed by BhajaParukala of Thyagaraja. Their brilliant exposition of the Kriti was garnished with excellent Sangatis. A plethora of Swaras reflected their musical erudition. Their caressing Govardhana girisam in Hindolam by Muthuswamy Dikshitar was Spartan and elegant. The Sangatis were ornate.
The piece de resistance was an elaborate exposition of Saveri. Ravikumar rendered a comprehensive and classical alapana of Saveri. Their portrayal of Ramabhana by Thyagaraja was coated with honey. The subsequent Swara passages was a musical treasure trove. Ravikumar struck a note by reaching the upper octave with panache.
S Varadarajan on the violin was energetic and his style was aglow with brilliance and Kallidaikurichi Sivakumar's strokes on the Mridangam was enriching.
Adambakkam Shankar on the Ghatam breathed ethereal fragrance into his humble clay pot.by his deft strokes. Their tani between Sivakumar and Shankar was laced with several rhythmic patterns .
