It was indeed an evening to remember in the world of music. Mudhra, a cultural organisation dedicated to classical music and dance, on Sunday organised an event to felicitate veteran playback singer, Dr. P.B. Sreenivas. And in the process, won the hearts of the packed audience!
The 'Geethamudhra Award' was given to singer P.B. Sreenivas for his yeoman service in the field of film music. The felicitation ceremony was accompanied by a 2-hour musical extravaganza of the evergreen melodies of PBS. This foot-tapping music was conducted by Sridhar Navaraags. A number of PBS hits including Azhagiya Magale, Madhura Nagaril, Nilave Ennidam, Manidhan Enpathu, Roja Malare Rasakumari, and many more were reproduced by singers, Jaishree, Balamurugan, Vijayalakshmi and others.
Dr. Agarwal, the eminent surgeon was also one among the singers and he amazed the crowd with his brilliant voice. A.V. Ramanan, senior singer also mesmerised the audience with the song, Ninnaipadhu Ellam Nadandhu Vitta. Y.G. Mahendra, a drama artist pleased the crowd by taking over the tabla for one special song.
Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti presided over the event and presented the 'Geethamudhra Award' to P.B. Sreenivos. Mudhra also released the world's first Tamil ghazal penned by PBS in an album called 'Mudhal Paarvaiyil', sung by O.S. Arun.
Also present at the function were Shri A. Natarajan, Former Director of Doordarshan, actor Shri. Y. Gee Mahendra, film actress, Chachu; and singer, Vani Jayaram. All in all, it was a star-studded event, with a full house and beautiful music!
