Vijay Siva enthralled the rasikas with his mellifluous voice at the Hayagreevar temple Nanganallur recently. He warmed up with Janaki Ramana in the raga Suddha Seemanthini.
His rendition of Saaketha Nagara Nadha in Harikambhoji by the bard of Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja was fast paced with a cascade of Swaras. Vijay's succinct sketch of Ammer kalyani had all the ingredients of classicism. His portrayal of Venkata Saila Vihara heightened the grandeur of the Sahitya.
He handled another rare raga Gowri manohari with elan. His sketch of Sarasadalaya Nayana was lively and vibrant.
The diadem of the recital which was the main piece was Thodi. Vijay's elaborate delineation of Thodi adhered to tradition. His rendition of Srikrishnam bhaja manasa by Muthuswamy Dikshitar had sheaves of sancharas. His neraval of Pankaja was elegant and lilting. He packed a powerful punch with a plethora of swaras. He alternated between slow and fast paced Kritis.
Vijay's rendition of Malemanivanna, the fourth pasuram of Thiruppavai was surcharged with bhakthi .
He was ably supported on the violin by Amirtha Murali. She was powerful and unobtrusive. Vijay's brother Manoj Siva on mridangam was powerful and his tani avarthanam had a rich tapestry of rhythm.
