For all those who run marathons in the crowded lanes of cities, this will be a breath of fresh air. With the IIT Madras celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Sports Organising Committee is hosting a Golden Jubillee Run at its lush green campus on Sunday, 21st September.
The event is being conducted along the lines of a cross-country race. The total length is inside of 10 kilometers, covering the entire 632 acre sprawling forest.
The event is open to all age groups. Bus services will be available at Institute Main Gate from 6 am. The reporting time for the event will is 6:15 am and the inauguration begins at 6:30 am. Following this the run will start at 7:00 am and is expected to get over by 9:00 am.
The event will also simultaneously see a fund raising initiative for flood relief in Bihar, in the aftermath of the devastating floods there.
In addition, the GJ Run is a way of promoting participation in fitness activities and giving everyone a chance to enjoy the beauty of the campus. The morning chill of the campus air will be another pleasant surprise for visitors. The run will be less than 10 km with arrangements for refreshment stalls, check-posts, a safety car and medical aid.
The Run is on the eve of IIT Madras' SportFest and will inaugurate the annual sporting extravaganza, in which about 30 colleges from all over the city participate in a wide spectrum of events which include badminton, volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis, and starting this year water polo and chess.
