Prem Kumar a soft spoken Nanganallurvasi is on a voyage with waves. Prem's desire of becoming a sea farer was ignited by his uncle who was an engineer in a ship. Hearing his uncle's tales of sea and ships he started of dreaming of becoming a sailor. Now he is a captain of a ship Mahanadhi Spirit and he is exploring the seven seas. Prem shared his voyage of discovery on high seas which is laced with interesting incidents.

After completing school he underwent training in a government maritime academy and joined as a cadet in an Indian vessel. Prems maiden odyssey was from Khandla to Japan. "The new environment ,food and people was a bit difficult for me as I grew in different atmosphere", declares Prem. He waxes eloquently about the punctuality of the Japanese.

He was young when he took up an assissgnment in Buenos Aires. He traveled in all modes of transport-Aeroplane ,car,catamaran ,canoe and barge.. With only one Indian on board every thing was totally alien. But his penchant for pursuing his career loomed large in him and he was determined to continue come what may.

Prem is awe struck by the beauty of Panama canal and dwells about its greenery and vegetation. This mariner has sailed near the famous Bermuda Triangle some years back.

People are threatened by the myth of the Bermuda Triangle but we were almost close to it .and we emerged unscathed quips Prem in a jubilant mood.. The Singapore port has trapped me, since it is at a vantage point it is there is always heavy traffic states Prem.

Talking about the life on board he feels that the crew should be well equipped with medicines and other accessories. When he was in Lativia the extreme cold -25 c had its toll on them .They were frost bitten and were seized by Mal de mer( sea sickness)

The weather will play truant some times and Prem remembers a proverb

Red at night is a sailor's delight

Red in the morning is a sailors warning.

Prem is obsessed about sea and liners and is paranoid about taking up 9 to 5 jobs.

Now, thats really passion to the core!
