The most talked Akshaya Thritiya made its presence felt in this temple town in a big way. The Jewellery shops stocked their shops with jewels well in advance, so that it would not be a gold rush at the last moment. Some women chose their jewels a week before so that they need not get huddled in the crowd on Akshaya Thritiya.

They made a beeline to the temple to buy their chosen items symbolically. Gold or Silver what ever be the cost we want to buy at least one gram so that it grows in leaps and bounds guffawed Raji who is keen on investing in the precious metals periodically.

The spiritual flavor of this day unfolded itself in the temples and by the general public.

Since it is based on eternal values the temples were bursting at it seams from the morning itself.

In the Hayagreevar temple the deities were given a holy bath and Poojas were done to the gods and goddesses. In the Guruvayoorappan temple besides the usual Pooja a spiritual raconteur was regaling the devotees with a thematic presentation on the Hindu pantheon. In some temples Anna Prasadam was served to every one. Many people distributed Panakam a neer moor to quench the thirst of the people reeling in torrid summer. The philanthropist distributed alms to the poor as doing this is supposed to be an act of Punya, in Hindu mythology.

Some educational institutions commenced some courses as it is believed that such endeavors will flourish.
