T Nagar bus terminus which is the nucleus of Chennai is a bustling area which is teeming with buses and travelers. The stretch of Usman road from CIT nagar till the bus terminus is a nightmare to crawl. Buses plying from the south USMAN road ( CIT Nagar) should necessarily take this road to enter the depot. The buses entering the terminus from the Burkit road whiz past to find a place in the over crowded terminus.
"It is like Scylla and Charybdis", guffawed an old resident of this area who resides in the adjacent Mahalakshmi road. The bus drivers find it a Herculean task ambling to the terminus. It reaches a crescendo in the evenings during the peak hours. Since the buses from all the directions converge at one point everything goes haywire during the evenings. I have seen buses line in a row waiting for hours together trying to enter the terminus.
Due to the delay of the buses a chain of reaction develops which makes it difficult for the people who travel by buses. The delayed departure of buses is a ritualistic happening. It makes matters worse for the commuters who are crossing the USMAN road round tana to reach the terminus. They have to face a horde of buses and cars before making a respectful entry into the terminus. Added to the misery are the street hawkers who remain squatted on the periphery of usman road .
Monsoon in MAMBALAM terminus paints a dismal picture.Tiny pools of water stagnate the area inside the terminus once there is a slight shower. It resembles a lake once there is torrential rain.
Lakhs of commuters use this terminus as a transit point to reach other places. Some measures should be adopted by corporation authorities to ease the situation
