Some people have a fetish for antique furniture for
these have a story to tell, a certain character that speaks of days gone by.
There are a few shops in Chennai where you can buy antique furniture.
One option is
to pick them up
at an auction at
Murray’s (Anna
Salai). Sign up
for their
newsletter, and
you will know
when these
auctions happen.
Bring home that
antique sofa-set
to match your
coffee table.
An alternative is to check out some of the stores that deal in these,
like Indika Creations, Adyar. Chairs, dining tables, bar cabinets, chaise
lounges are what you’d get at this lovely store. Most of the pieces are made
of either teakwood or rosewood, and hence are of the highest quality.
Some exquisite furniture that sell like hot cakes can also be found at
Centaur Furniture (RA Puram), adjacent to Sangeetha Apoorva Hotel. They have
quite a collection of antique chairs and dining tables, that are beautiful,
some hand-crafted as well. Though a bit on the expensive side, they are
worth a glance.
If you are looking for something that would weigh down less heavily on
your budget, you need to drive across town to Iravatha, Chetpet. Here you’d
get everything from lounge chairs, tables, fancy cabinets to intricately
crafted king-sized beds. Amidst the interesting collection are trinkets,
like door knobs, handles, mirrors and craft pieces that would blend with
similar furniture and add a period look to them.
Interested in taking a look at more antique furniture before making a
purchase? Drive down to Harrington Road and step into the fascinating Rani

on display will dazzle you. Silver artware, furniture pieces, rugs and
