Summer Escape : Tambaram Fun Fair

A medium scale fun fair can be the only thing that can satisfy the summer quest for entertainment for kids and parents to heave a sigh of relief. The suburban town of Tambaram seems to be all geared for the amusement promised by the fun fair in the local government school grounds, Selaiyur.

It felt so good so see the erection of the fun fair. Every day I pass this way just to find out if the construction was complete. Its just a week since it was inaugurated but Ive visited it thrice till now Says Siddarth, a student who has appeared for his tenth board exams.

With a meager entrance fee of 10 Rs. this fun fair pulls crowd from all parts of Tambaram and even people from farther suburbs. The entrance is quite aesthetically done. With a Titanic ship setting, blocking view of what lies inside increasing the curiosity!

The rides are quite evenly distributed for adults and the kids. Though there are only few rides, it gives good evening time fun. On my ride in the Giant wheel, like a birds eye view, the ground was filled with enthusiastic summer haters. The ticket sales are soaring higher day by day, our revenue yesterday for Brake Dance (a popular ride) was close to 3000Rs. Says Manju, ticket vendor.

The sights of parents accompanying their young kids going in the motor cars and buying the usual fun fair special large appalam were energizing! The best part of the funfair is the motor cyclist going rounds in the 30 feet high & a wide wooden barrel. Reminded me of the circus scenes of Apoorva Sagodharagal, Kamal Hasan movie!

Each ride costs around 25 Rs. But its worth it. How can one finish the trip to the fair without eating? There are stalls for eateries. Chat stalls and sugar cane juice and the Cauliflower Manchurian made my day. To the last lap of my trip was a window shopping expedition to the big shopping area. Ladies were busy buying articles like vessels and filters for their kitchen.

On the whole, the fair garnered an overwhelming response. This fun fair will last for one more month. So all you amusement savvy people, head there for a summer escape!
