A Beach Close to Heart
'Besi'

Have you ever tried locating 'Besi' in the map of Chennai? Well, that's not possible as Besi does exist but not as how it is profoundly called by Chennaites Let me unveil the real name of the most sought after, natural hangout in Chennai- Besi alias the Elliots Beach or the Besant Nagar beach.

The popularity of the Besant nagar beach has now grown to the extent of overshadowing the age old Chennai tourist destination- the Marina Beach. The Edward Elliots Beach located at Besant Nagar is a trendy spot for those looking for reprieve from the baking temperature and the hustle and bustle of the city.

Cleaner than the Marina Beach, wide choice of restaurants and fast food joints, ample car parking space in its upscale vicinity! The evening time scene of the beach explains the eliteness of the Elliot's beach. Senior citizens driving their cars down the lane for few yards with an easy chair in hand, take slow steps towards the beach to rest in the shore and enjoy the picturesque ambience.

"This place is where I bring all my guests for an evening trip. By providing almost everything which is required to complete a tour, Besi is one place Chennai can boast of." says Yugesh, a BPO employee.

"Besi , oh what do I tell about this place, Besi is very close to my heart. Here is where I've spent most of my time. This beach has seen me happy and sad" says a nostalgic Anita. A place not just for the youth but also for spiritual people

Besant Nagar also has many famous worship places like Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple, Ashtalakshmi Kovil, Arupadai Murugan Kovil, Ratnagirishwarar Kovil and the Velankanni Church.

Sundal and Balloon shooting synonymous with the beaches is not commonly seen. Once considered a deserted sea area, to being one of those places frequented only by love birds (couples) has now grown to the extent of catching the numero uno place of Chennai's tourist itineraries.
