worked as a
graphic
designer for
8 years
before
launching
her own
brand of
designs.
Meet Ms Uma
Balachandran,
a Chennai
based
designer
launched her
own range of
collections
under the
name Kozmik
Blues.

She
mostly works
on silk, raw
silk and
texture
fabric.
Asked about
her designs,
Uma says "I
do not
follow a
particular
pattern or
style. I get
inspired by
the fabric
and design
them as per
the mood I
am in." She
sources her
fabrics from
Erode,
Salem,
Bangalore,
and Bombay.
She has
her own set
of clients
for whom she
is a
personal
wardrobe
designer. "I
do not
promote my
stuff in
anyway. It
has been
only through
word of
mouth. And I
believe in
only that. I
love to
interact
with my
clients very
close so
that I would
get to know
their style
and taste."
Uma's
latest
venture is
the GRT
Wedding
collections.
"They wanted
a change
from the
usual "Pattu
sarees", so
I went in
for a
contemporary
design and
each saree
has a unique
design,
giving it a
totally
different
look."
Her
collections
include half
stitched
salwar
kameez,
sarees, silk
& cotton
kurtis,
street wears
tops, party
tops in
silk, party
wear in silk
and suede,
cotton
skirts, silk
skirts,
causal wear,
summer wear.
The price
range begins
from Rs.
3200 for a
saree to Rs.
15,000 for
silk sarees.
