Designer collections @ cityThe Trio's run by Sheetal Modi and her sister Sushma Gupta presented the first show of 2009 at Chola Sheraton recently in the city showcasing famous and upcoming designers for an exhibition. Designers from Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Bangalore and Hyderabad set up stalls bringing about clothes, jewellery, foot wear, bags, purses, table wear, furnishings and gift wear.

From clothes to matching accessories, there was everything for a woman. Says Sheetal Modi and Sushma Gupta, "This is altogether a different level of shopping and we wanted both the upcoming and the established designers to come and present their collections to Chennai which was waiting for this so long and the wait is finally over."

Designer collections @ citySo are Chennaities fashion conscious? "Chennaities are a blend of both tradition and fashion. They like experimenting with new trends and people here appreciate also the new trends."

Generally fashion and designer labels are expensive but the collections displayed at the show were very much affordable and it ranged from Rs.400 to Rs.4,00,000. There were sophisticated furniture, trendy foot wear, contemporary lamps and glasses. In the garment section, there were hand woven fabrics, kurtis for the summer and party wear for the elite.

Designer collections @ cityAnusri Pramanik, leading fashion designer who has her own fashion label called Aara says, "I use a lot of prints on my garments, which is very much wearable by a metro woman. My ideology is that a woman must wear a dress with which she is very much comfortable and she must be able to carry herself well." So how open are Chennai women towards fashion and trendy clothes? "Chennai is still on the fashion border but today's youngsters like sensational clothes and love experimenting."

The Trio's initiative was to showcase even the upcoming designer's collections and give them an identity of their own. Says an elated Kamala Ravikumar, an interior decorator who designs tiffany lamps and mirrors, "Touch of glass is a creation of my own where I design candle stands and lamps for one's house. Here, many people have enquired about what I do and I feel I have got an identity as I was able to show what I do."

The Trio's are coming up with their next expo in July.
