Just as seasons keep changing, so does the latest vogue and the fashion trends of Chennai. So what is the latest craze among the youth of Chennai?
According to college student, Shruti Sadani, "Slow and steady Chennai is fast catching up. Being summer, pastel shades are moving in the market. Yellow too is very in right now, but personally I don't like it very much. One-piece outfits and casual kurtas over jeans is still a favourite of the majority! Apart from that, jute bags can be found everywhere and when it comes to chains, its metal stones for parties."
In keeping in mind the growing awareness about fashion among the Chennai youth, two young women, Deepal Shah and Shivani Shroff have started their new business venture, a boutique named Mee, it's all about you! Located in Cathedral Road, Mee was started in February 2008 by these business women. A small shop, they cater to customers aged between 15 and 35 years of age. Party wear, casuals, accessories, footwear and bags- the shop has everything that you've dreamed of owning- and at quite reasonable rates.
When asked about the latest fad among Chennai youth, owner Deepal Shah says, "Right now, waist coats are really in among the youth. Also the trend of wearing Harrum Pants (Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met) is also slowly making waves across the town. We sell Harrum pants in plain colors as well as in printed fabric. Also, big bags in metallic colors like gold and silver seem to be the latest craze among the women."
Chunky and big jewellery, wooden bracelets, chains made of shells, stilettos and Osho chappals are most commonly seen adorning the Chennai crowd. Beads which were in a month ago are today considered ancient history. As for your Ballerina Shoes, you may as well kiss them good bye with the entry of Crocs footwear and the sale of Osho chappals on a relentless high! In the comfort range, Osho chappals can be a woman's paradise. Available in any foot wear store, the price is low, the look classy and the comfort level extremely high.
But are we on par with the Mumbai shoppers and their fashion trends?
Says Deepal, "Chennaites fashion sense has improved a lot over the past few years. Say two years ago, the lifestyle here was completely different. People used to travel all the way to Bombay or Bangalore for their shopping. Chennai definitely lacks in the number of shops offering clothes and accessories which are making waves across the country. So we started this shop to give people more choice. People have started experimenting more with clothes, and so far, the response we have got is immense."
Sometimes the best makeover can come in the form of new footwear or new accessories and at very reasonable rates. You no longer have to spend a bomb to stay in vogue. Make your own style today.
