'Orange' is what comes to her mind when Kamala Krishnaswamy thinks of brightness and summer. And she is one lady who has added her touch of 'brightness' to everything that she's made!

Orange Harvest is in Chennai! Wondering what it is? Orange Harvest is a newly launched store for clothes, accessories and jewellery, located in Abhiramapuram. And this is an initiative of Mrs. Kamala Krishnaswamy, a first-time entrepreneur.

Orange Harvest is a store with a difference! It is a boutique that provides clothes only in earth colours- lime, earthy browns, red and black and white. It is a store that has exclusive designs for every piece sold. They believe in one size per piece per style. Every design is an exclusive one and so is every pattern used!

Kurtis, skirts, T-shirts, Harrum pants, and comfortable trousers for the ladies, and shirts and T-shirts for the gentlemen! Orange Harvest targets people in the age group of 19 to 45 years. And once you see their clothes, you can understand why. They have something for everyone! Classy for the youngsters and elegance for the older ones! Their size ranges from XS to XXL. And their prices won't burn too big a hole into your pocket either. Clothes start from Rs. 449 and move till Rs 2000. Bags are available from Rs. 900 onwards, footwear from Rs. 1000 and jewellery from Rs. 650.

So what induced Kamala Krishnaswamy, the designer, to enter the business world with Orange Harvest? "I have been interested in the garments field since my days in college. I have my own garment buying agency; and a friend, Vandhana (of the Banyan) talked me into making clothes for others and selling them. And that is how Orange Harvest came into being. I designed the logo first and then finalised the name. I was attracted by the fancy 'O' of the logo, and then decided on the word 'Orange'." She grins.

What is unique about Orange Harvest is that the clothes are not mass made. There is just one piece in each size. It is the exclusivity in every item sold here that sets it apart from all the other boutiques.

"All clothes are made using cotton, linen or silk and we also have T-shirts in block prints. We have artisans in Jaipur who work on the blocks. Also, before we display our clothes on sale, the fabric is washed to a 0-0 finish, so that it doesn't shrink any further."

All clothes are designed by Mrs. Kamala. And she works very closely with her other designers. The footwear is supplied by Neyomi Khatau based in Mumbai, bags designed by Aishwarya Ramji of Chennai and jewellery by Nalini Pandey, also from Chennai.

Orange Harvest has made an attempt to provide everything to the customers under their 'orange' roof. Pick out any clothes, and you are sure to find matching footwear and accessories. This is definitely one store that is bound to make every individual customer feel unique!
