Any drawing room conversation inevitably turns to the changes the past decade has brought about. But that too has undergone a change -- the time span now is a matter of months or even less. The pace is often too fast to keep up with. All roads seem to be leading to Adyar these days. And the range is simply stupendous. When Sangeetha opened its restaurant on Gandhi Nagar I Main Road, a collective sigh of relief must have gone up for the dosa-idli hungry office-goer. With a friendly neighbour in Sri Krishna Sweets, it became easy for those out shopping to snatch a bite to eat and pick up a packet of sweets on the way home. Another feather in the cap was when Nalli opened its Adyar showroom on June 16 on Nehru Nagar 2nd Main Road. A week ago, brisk activity could be seen as one turned in from Sardar Patel Road. Sunday saw the opening of yet another new showroom, this time 'Sun' imported furniture.
This series will feature the latest additions to Adyar, but that does not mean we will forget the not so new and the old timers.

Happening, in, hip - all of these and more, that's what Adyar is today and what Adyarites can be proud of. Gone are the days when the area was more of vacant land, houses few and far between and commercial complexes unheard of.
And there's more for the shopping happy! Archies is on its way and Adyar-bound is also Marrybrown. The crowning glory will probably be the Hyundai showroom coming up at the Kasturba Nagar-Indira Nagar I Avenue junction.
