REAL WEALTH HARVESTING
(At a restaurant)

VARUN-- The vegetable soup is quite tasty. mmmm..... Come on Praveen, eat
slowly. Have you forgotten that today is Sunday?

ROHIT-- What's the hurry? Are you meeting anyone after lunch?

PRAVEEN-- No one in particular. But our club has organised a meeting at 3'o
clock. We have undertaken the job of supervising RWH in our area. So, today
each one of us will be allocated a certain job to do.

VARUN-- Rain Water Harvesting, is it? I heard that apart from our
government, many voluntary organisations are engaged in making RWH a reality
in every nook and corner of our State. It is the need of the hour, one must say.

ROHIT-- Yes, there is no second opinion to that. Apart from the reservoirs
that store rain water, the only other source of water supply is from the
underground aquifers from where it is drawn by wells and bore wells.

PRAVEEN-- RWH is useful in recharging ground water, reduces the salinity and
improves the quality of water. We should have started on this long back.

VARUN-- Better late than never. The State Government has done a commendable
job in creating an awareness among the people about the importance of RWH.

PRAVEEN-- Yes, by promulgating an ordinance, it has been made mandatory for
all the buildings. Otherwise our people will take their own time in getting it done.

ROHIT-- You know, I feel that equal attention should be given to RWH in
street corners and road junctions for effecting percolation. Water logging
can be avoided if this done.

VARUN-- You are quite right, Rohit. Our people will also be able to commute
without any difficulty. We need not wade in knee-deep water, worrying about
the pot-holes.

PRAVEEN-- It is in the hands of the citizens now. They have to realise that
every drop saved now will assure a better tomorrow.

ROHIT-- Well, what can you say about some citizens who raise a question that
when there is no rain at all, why should RWH be done? I myself have heard
people asking such 'sensible' questions.

VARUN-- The answer is that if you prepare yourself now, you will reap the
benefits later. It is like 'you reap what you sow'.

PRAVEEN-- You know, we have organised a slogan contest in our club to
promote RWH, for our members.

ROHIT-- Hey, why only for your members? How about this slogan? ''Invest in
water--Interest accumulates later'' or........

PRAVEEN-- Now, now, that's enough for today. Knowing you, I should have kept
quiet.

VARUN-- I sincerely hope it rains cats and dogs so that our efforts don't
go waste. Ah! Rain, welcome rain!

ROHIT-- At least, no mother would ask the rain to 'go away'. She would rather
prefer her Tommy to stay indoors rather than send away the rains.

PRAVEEN-- ( laughing ) Just goes to show that you still have not come out of
the 'KG' hangover!
