Bajaj launches goods carrier in Chennai

Bajaj Auto, a pioneer in the three-wheeler and two-wheeler industry in the country, on Friday launched its new GC 1000 Diesel Goods Carrier in Chennai, which the company hopes would be particularly useful to move goods from the Koyambedu bus depot to business districts of the city.

Its General Manager C K Rao (Marketing-3W) and Regional Manager C V Ravin (3W) said the company hoped to sell 3,600 of these vehicles in Tamil Nadu in the first year. The all-India target for the same period was 36,000, taking Bajaj's market share in this category to 80 per cent.

The market for these products was looking up in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, thanks to a network of good roads and highways, particularly the development of the East Coast Road, Rao said.

The new diesel goods carrier was fitted with the powerful 416.60 cc 8.5 Bhp fuel-efficient Japanese engine and packed with salient features like dual front fork with anti-dive link for better stability; hydraulic brake with tandem master cylinder for efficient braking, electric fuel pump for easy start and a sturdy chassis. It has been priced at Rs 1.01 lakh ex-Chennai.
