The car is priced in the range of Rs 4.4-5.3 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai) and debuts with three models in petrol with an 85 bhp output and two in turbo-diesel with a 62 bhp output in 6 attractive colours. The base petrol model comes with manual steering and air conditioning as standard features at Rs.4.4 lakh while the top end petrol model is priced at Rs 5 lakh. The base diesel version comes with power steering, heating and air-conditioning as standard and is priced at Rs.4.9 lakh while the top and end diesel model is priced at Rs 5.3 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion of the commercial launch in Mumbai earlier last week, R N Tata, Chairman, Tata Engineering, said “Tata Indigo is a significant milestone in the evolution of the passenger car business of the company and enables us to establish a presence in segments constituting 70 per cent of the total domestic passenger vehicle market with one of the widest ranges available in the country. The Indigo comes with several class-leading features and we are quite hopeful of the car gaining wide acceptance in the market.” The Tata Indigo has the most spacious of passenger compartments and the first in class 3-link independent rear suspension combined with large 14” wheels establish new benchmarks of ride comfort. A thoughtfully contoured profile and individual spot reading lamps enhance rear seat comfort for passengers. An extended wheelbase with a semi-forward profile helps maintain a compact overall length, liberating useful by space inside without comprising on the maneuverability of the car in light traffic conditions. The exterior styling is accentuated with clear headlamps and trapezoidal taillights, which merge with a contemporarily styled profile, giving the car a trendy, modern appeal. V Sumantran, Executive Director, Passenger Car Business Unit and Engineering Research Centre, Tata Engineering said: “The Indigo exemplifies the progressing evolution of Tata Engineering’s capabilities to offer distinctive, trend-setting products across the value chain of the passenger car segment. It underlines the strength of the traditional sedan values of premiumness and status while having a young and modern appeal.” With 450 litres of trunk space and a 42-litre fuel tank capacity, the Tata Indigo is appropriately suited for long family drives on weekends and vacations. The car has undergone extensive and rigorous tests at the internationally reputed test facilities of MIRA, UK and complies with European safety norms of full frontal, offset and rear impact. The Tata Indigo will be launched with an 18 month unlimited km warranty and will be available through 102 dealerships backed by a 436 strong service network in 168 cities across the country.
