How we bend to please our friends,
How our friends bend to please "their" friends,
O' this cycle of pleasing never ends;
We alter and shuffle to make amends,
Ignoring our level-headed husbands,
On such a twisted pattern our life depends!
And in the pell-mell of domestic errands,
The child in a whirlwind schedule attends –
To keep up with skating and riding trends!
Hurry, worry, society recommends –
As he pretends and she pretends
In the messages to each the other sends;
"It is all for our children" one smugly contends!
But soon a void one apprehends
For, in the daily maze of hairpin bends,
We lose ourselves in the process, friends!
Bereft of soul, our value system descends;
To be popular and accepted till life ends!
Alas! Can these be really dividends?
