The 'Seasons of the Heart', a part of the artist's series of exhibitions called 'Introspection in Colour', can be called a collage of real and surreal paintings, varying from the real Kerala 'Utsav' to the surreal 'Freedom'. There were a number of Ganesha paintings also.
The businessman took special interest in a piece and was told that it was priced at Rs 20,000. The madam, who knew the artist "personally", discovered that I was a Malayalee from my "appearance". She whispered to me (the artist was nowhere around) that she was not pleased with the present pieces.
The picture at the handicrafts mela was quite different. There was a rush to see, touch, feel and buy handicrafts, handlooms and jewellery which were sold at 10 per cent rebate. Kerala handicrafts included exquisite carvings, inlaid panels, teapoy, wall-clock, Nettor box and the like made of rosewood, whitewood and sandalwood. Kerala lamp, varpu, para, ashtamangalya set, arathi, and brass sets were aplenty. Other Kerala items included banana fibre tablemats, bags, purses, wall-hangers like peacocks, butterflies, etc. Handlooms like saree, set-mundu and dhoti made a golden presence in the mela.
