On Madras

She was a mere loam of anonymity,
When the carnival of the tides began
Watching gulls over the ozone city.
And monitoring their moods that she may scan
Her own line of beat between ebb and flow
Until the tide of civilisation
Swept over her in a mighty inflow,
Drowning her shored up spices of isolation.
Then she started coasting to her five-starred
Hour of life breaking sun space above
In rising splendour of concrete concord,
In complete accord with sky scraping vow,
Silting up souls of men and soulless wheels,
Cannibals flying at each other's heels.
