Tree plantation programme: Vruksho Rakshitha Rakshathaha. The motive and plan of planting saplings and creating awareness about the importance of trees among the
schoolchildren was fruitful. In all 75 saplings were planted at Ulanthai Government High School located at a remote village near
Sriperumbudur. Nalmanam also successfully
planted another 80 trees at Patteeswaram Government High School, near
Avadi, Chennai. It gives a sense of contentment and pleasure to watch all these saplings grow. The
NGO plans to plant more saplings in the coming years.
Holiday trip to Kovai: The Nalmanam family went out for an excursion to Coimbatore and its surroundings from November 16, 2006 to November 20, 2006.
The children had a wonderful and memorable trip. The trip started by offering prayers from the famous Echanari Vinayagar Temple on way to
Topslip. The weather was cool, the breeze was pleasant accompanied by the sound of birds chirping and monkeys shrieking all the winding way to
Topslip.
The whole dense forest dwelling place for the animals and Nature is governed by the Forest Department. The group reached the hill top by evening and enjoyed a thrilling
safari trip in the dense forest. The children had the opportunity of seeing an elephant with its calf somewhere deep inside the forest in a small valley. The night was cool with
intermittent rains.
On the ensuing day, they woke up to a heavy downpour and were able to enjoy the beauty of Nature and its surroundings with the green meadows as the backdrop and its
serene atmosphere with beautiful spotted dear grazing. Later, they started from Topslip and went to Valliyar Dam, a traditional shooting spot for many Tamil films.
They were unable to enjoy the lush green garden on the banks of dam as it was raining. The children enjoyed the view of the Monkey Falls which is located on way to
Valparai. It was quite a huge falls with water gushing out taking everything in its path.
Later in the day, they visited the famous Masaniyamman temple. The following day they had a darshan of Lord Muruga at Marudhamalai and then we visited the Isha Yoga
centre on the outskirts of Kovai, a serene, wonderfully silent location.
One can rest assured that these sort of trips actually lift the spirit of all who participate and
rejuvenate one to face many more trials in daily life.
