The week-long birth centenary celebrations of Tirukudanthai Srimad Andavan, the ninth pontiff of Srirangam, culminated at Andavan Ashramam in the temple town of Srirangam on March 28.
Special abhishekams, poojas and mass feeding marked the occasion.
Tirukundanthai Andavan was the peedathipathi of the ashram from 1963 to 1989.
Well-known seers like Rangapriya Maha Desikan Swamy of Bangalore and Ranga Narayana Jeeyar Swamy of Srirangam were present on the occasion.
Ashram chairman Srimughuam Andavan Swami said donations made through Sankara Netralaya, Chennai, would enable 2,000 poor persons get spectacles free of cost. Beneficiaries would include 800 persons each from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra and 400 from
Guwahati.
The works of Tirukudanthai Andavan Swami, brought out in five volumes, were also released on the occasion.
To commemorate the event, one silver crown worth about Rs 2.5 lakh was presented to the pontiff, the 11th in the order, which in turn would be offered to the Balaji deity at Dombivili, Mumbai. (Agencies)
