The Confederation of Indian Organisations for Service and
Advocacy (CIOSA), and the SIRAKU Foundation (Skills and Income for
Rural Aspirants and Knowledge Unlimited) are introducing a support
programme, ‘We 99’ for social entrepreneurs from Tamil Nadu, where
99 entrepreneurs will be awarded.
The programme has been initiated as an attempt to support and
encourage young social workers who display a lot of potential for
social action and change. The fellowships will be made available for
individuals who want to set up non-profit organisations as well as
those who set up such non-profit organisations not more than five
years ago.
Speaking about the fellowship, K Pandia Rajan – founder-trustee,
CIOSA, and P Dhanapal, founder-trustee, Siraku - said, “The primary
aim of this fellowship is to provide a much-needed impetus for
youngsters who are engaged in social work. This initiative will
further encourage those who have the skills and the ability to
manage and build an organisation. Indeed, such an initiative is also
bound to help us constructively critique the abilities of people who
are working effortlessly to institute significant change in
society.”
The fellowship offers financial support for two years, combined
with training and mentoring support. Individuals applying for the
fellowship must fulfil certain basic criteria. The fellowship is
open to those who are based in Tamil Nadu, who is the
founding-trustee of an existing or a new organisation, while not
being a part of any other organisation or institution.. The
candidate should be secular and non-political and not more than 35
years of age. This programme will be launched by A P J Abdul Kalam
on January 21, 2008.
