The Tamil Nadu government has
decided to promote the practice of Yoga among the rural public,
Minister for Environment and Sports T P M Maideen Khan said
recently.
The government would impart Yoga
training to the public through rural sports centres and for this, a
batch of 20 instructors have already been selected.
He said this while inaugurating
the Rural Volley Ball Centre at Tittachery, near Nagapattinam.
He said rural sports centres would help promote
sports activities in villages and also encourage young rural talent,
he said.
The DMK government has opened 11 sports centres
in the rural areas of the state and also sanctioned required funds,
he said, while asking the youth to exploit this opportunity and
groom their talent.
Similarly, in coastal villages, 20 fisherfolk
would be selected for imparting training in swimming.
Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority was
distributing prizes to the winners of the rural sports and games
events, he said.
Khan also appealed to the public, especially
teachers and students, to plant tree saplings and get involved in
activities of ecological conservation. (Agencies)
