3 Lankan players fined by match referee
Colombo, Aug 2: Three Sri Lankan players -- Kumara Sangakkara, Upul Chandana and Tillakaratne Dilshan -- were today penalised by ICC match referee Mike Procter for bringing the game into disrepute during the final of the Asia Cup cricket tournament against India here.
Procter found wicketkeeper Sangakkara guilty of breaching ICC's code of conduct and fined him 100 per cent of his match fees while Chandana and Dilshan, charged with a level one offence, were fined 50 per cent of their match fees. Sangakkara was found guilty of engaging in a heated exchange with Harbhajan Singh towards the end of the Indian innings.
Procter held a hearing here this morning after the behaviour of the trio in yesterday's match was reported by umpires David Shepherd and Billy Bowden. Sri Lanka beat India by 25 runs to lift the Asia Cup. (Agencies)
