"We had decided there would be no cricket talk today. There was no cricket in our minds as we decided to relax completely today," Indian team manager Aravind Ganguly said.
According to Ganguly, the idea was to allow the players recoup from a tiring schedule.
"From tomorrow it will be back to business and preparing for the rest of the tournament," he added.
According to eye witnesses the players including captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni chose to "chill out" in the Dreamworld Resort which is some 30 kilometers from the city centre.
All the players spent their time trying out all the "goodies" at the resort before the drive back to the team hotel around 7.30 pm.
"They did everything, they went for horseback riding, water sliding, shooting, archery and even the motor dirt sport," one eye witness said.
"They really appeared to be enjoying themselves," he added.
The Indian team's decision to go to a public resort rather than some private resort came as a surprise to many but apparently the idea was to relax which they did despite the usual autograph hunters.
"But no one really bothered or hassled them. The people were just happy to see them really enjoying themselves and they were all very polite and friendly," an eye witness said.
As expected, the security for the Indian players at the resort was tight but not abrasive.
India play back to back matches on Wednesday and Thursday against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively.
