Shane Warne equals world record - Scorecard

Chennai, Oct 14 : Australian spinner Shane Warne today equalled the world record for highest wickets in Test cricket on the opening day of the second Test against India here.

Warne claimed his 532nd scalp when he had India's new opener Yuvraj Singh caught behind in the last over of the day.

This is the second time that Warne and Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan are sharing the world record. But now the Aussie has set himself up nicely to reclaim the honour of being the world's highest wickettaker.

The 35-year-old Warne achieved the record-equalling feat in his 114th Test, 12 years after he made the debut against the same opponents at Sydney.

The Aussie achieved the milestone on a day when none, not even the bowler himself, would have expected as his team had elected to bat on winning the toss at the Chepauk.

But a dramatic collapse saw the visitors being bundled out for 235 in their first innings an hour and half after tea.

With the Indians coming in to bat, Warne smelled blood and was rewarded in his second over and the last of the day after repeatedly troubling Yuvraj. (Our Correspndent)
