Floodlights at MAC Spin Foundation
A floodlight facility was commissioned at the MAC Spin Foundation in Chennai recently, giving a boost to the training of upcoming spin bowlers in the country.
BCCI president Sharad Pawar visited the foundation, the only spin academy in the country, which has produced several Ranji-level bowlers, and held discussions with chief coach Robin Singh and consultant coach Venkatapathy
Raju.
N Srinivasan, industrialist and treasurer of the BCCI, commissioned the full-fledged lighting at the academy, which has four different pitches.
A C Muthiah, former BCCI president and chairman of the foundation, in his welcome address, said, "Spin is on the decline now and in order to provide some impetus to spin bowling, the lighting facilities have been extended."
Replying to Muthiah's offer of the facilities for the players with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, Srinivasan, president of TNCA, said the trainees from this academy would fill the vacuum now witnessed in Indian cricket.
Raju, who coached the wards at the academy, said, “It is going to be a learning experience for me since this is my first assignment. The academy has the best facilities in the country.”
Robin Singh said, “This is a strong stable to produce spinners for India.”
