Sandip Patil inaugurates 10th Saran CC7s
Sandeep Patil, former India Test and ODI cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, launched the 10th Saran CC7s 2006 at the Western Railway Stadium in Mumbai recently. The Championship is expected to be played till the first week of April 2006 and has over 90 teams participating this year.
The Tenth Saran CC7s 2006, which has been pioneered by Saran Presents and emulated by many others, allows that classy mix of playing competitive cricket while having fun beyond the boundary.
Sanjiv Saran Mehra said, "In a fast-paced contemporary world, where corporate bigwigs are zooming ahead, the Saran CC7s serve as a stress-free forum in a relaxed environment, away from the pressures of workplace. It is an ideal platform for executives to realise their potential outside their realm of expertise."
Structured for amateur players, the competition will be played on a league cum-knockout format, and will be held during weekends where teams will vie for top honors in the Open Category, Seniors Cup and the Super Cup.
In addition to the championship cup, there is the Corporate Cricket Challenge 2006 which will test the bowling, batting and fielding skills of the participating teams.
In order to make it a family event, Saran CC7s have also included a sports event for corporate kids.
The concept and championship was initiated in 1997, with 23 teams taking part in the inaugural edition. Today, it is established as the world’s longest running and largest CC7s (Corporate Cricket 7s Championship) and has the distinction of being listed in the latest edition of the Limca Book of Records 2005.
The popularity of the tournament is reflected in the fact that over 90 teams are participating in the Saran CC7s 2006. Listed high on the agenda of all corporate executives, the championship serves as the platform to show their skills. Some of The prominent teams participating include ABN Amro, Cadbury, Citibank, Ernst and Young, HLL, HSBC, KPMG, Proctor and Gamble, MTV, Tata Sons.
This year over 1,000 corporate executives, all die-hard cricket enthusiasts, from some of India’s leading corporate houses have confirmed their participation. Some of the big names expected to participate include Peter Mukherjea (CEO, Star India), Shitin Desai (VC & MD, DSP Merrill Lynch Ltd), T. Doongaji (MD, Tata Services Ltd), Ravindra Kumar (Country Head, Wholesale Banking, ING Vysysa Bank), Gunit Chadha (Country Head & MD, Deutsche Bank, India), Navalbir Kumar (MD, Standard Chartered Mutual Fund), S V Prasad (CEO, Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund) amongst others.
All matches will be played from 8.30 a.m to 5 p.m on weekends.
