Lahore Oct 12 : Inzamam-ul-Haq made a disappointing exit from
international cricket on Friday as Pakistan appeared to forego a
world record run-chase and fight for a draw in the second Test
against South Africa. Inzamam's (3) last innings in Test cricket
lasted only two deliveries. Inzamam attempted a big shot off
left-arm spinner Paul Harris but misjudged the line of the ball
and was stumped. Inzamam, who played 120 Test matches, fell
three runs short of breaking Javed Miandad's Pakistan Test
record of 8,832 runs.
As the 37-year-old Inzamam walked back to the
dressing room he waved his bat for the last time to around 5,000
spectators present at the Gaddafi Stadium. All the South African
players clapped while Pakistan players lined up on the boundary
to give a last send off to their former captain, who ended his
career with 8,830 runs and 25 centuries.
Pakistan was 282-4 at tea on the final day --
needing a further 175 runs in the remaining 26 overs to force an
unlikely victory and level the two-match series. Mohammad Yousuf
(48) and captain Shoaib Malik (2) were the unbeaten batsmen at
the crease.
Earlier, Younis Khan (130) scored a century
and shared two big partnerships to initially give Pakistan hope
in the run chase, but also to frustrate South Africa's hopes of
pushing for a 2-0 series victory. (Agencies)
