Gilchrist to miss Videocon Cup
Sydney,
Aug 2: Dashing wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist will miss the Videocon Cup in
Holland, but paceman Brett Lee returns to the 14-man Australian squad announced
today for the series in Holland and the ICC Champions Trophy in England.
Also missing from the squad is champion leg spinner Shane Warne who was not considered for selection after he stuck to his earlier decision to retire from one-day cricket following a one-year ban for a positive dope test last year.
Lee returns to the Australian line-up for the first time since the tour of Sri Lanka, when he was forced home with an injured left ankle. The pacer, who underwent surgery in March, has been declared fit by Cricket Australia medical staff after undergoing extensive rehabilitation.
In Gilchrist's absence, Darren Lehmann will take on the vice-captaincy, while Gilchrist remains in Perth to be with his wife, Mel, expecting the birth of their second child.
Gilchrist, who will join the squad in time for the Champions Trophy, will be replaced for the Holland-leg of the tour by Brad Haddin, the back-up wicket-keeper during the one-day international series in Sri Lanka earlier this year.
The world champions will depart for the Videocon Cup in Holland on August 19. The tournament, also involving India and Pakistan, will incorporate three qualifying matches plus a final.
