New Delhi, Oct 11: CRPF personnel will be deployed at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur to provide fool-proof security cover to the touring teams during the Champions Trophy cricket tournament.
Six hundred and
twenty five personnel (five companies) will man the entry and exit points besides keeping a tight watch on thousands of spectators at the ground, where five one-day internationals, including a semifinal match, will be played between October 13 and November 2.
The decision to deploy paramilitary personnel was taken after the state government informed the Home Ministry about the difficulty in providing adequate security to the players during the festive season.
"Our men have already started work in the Sawai Man Singh stadium at Jaipur and are making temporary structures at strategic points," a senior CRPF officer said.
India plays their first match of the tournament against England at Jaipur on October 15.
Apart from manning the gates, the personnel have also been asked to mingle with the crowd and to be on the look-out for suspicious persons, the official added.
CRPF personnel will focus more on access control measures to prevent trouble makers from entering the stadium.
"Spotters will also be installed inside and outside the grounds," the official added. (Agencies)
