Jaipur, Oct 16: The International Cricket Council (ICC) today said it would not interfere in the dope controversy involving Pakistani bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif as it was for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take the necessary action.
ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said the game's governing body did not come into the picture as the PCB had conducted the tests on its own under the WADA protocol.
"Initially it is a PCB function. Let's appreciate that they did it. They could have simply sent the players (hiding) for the Champions Trophy. For the first time they have done this and two players have tested positive for an anabolic steroid. It's a PCB matter and they will deal with it," he said at a press conference here.
Asked whether disciplinary action would be taken against the two players, Speed said, "We need to get the full story. It is a disappointing day for cricket. Let us not get too far ahead at the moment." (Agencies)
