Mumbai, Oct 17: Australian skipper Ricky Ponting today said rookie off spinner Dan Cullen was in the running for a place in the final eleven of the ICC Champions Trophy match against West Indies here tomorrow.
"We have been looking at the conditions over the last couple of games. Dan Cullen's name would definitely come up as far as selection goes. Seeing the wickets so far we think it would be very conducive to spin tomorrow night," said the Aussie skipper ahead of the day-night clash at the Brabourne Stadium here.
Ponting felt that the team had enough armoury at its command to take advantage of a spinning pitch if it came to that and said the ideal mix would be three fast men or two spinners.
"We have (left arm wrist spinner Brad) Hogg. Andrew Symonds is there in the side anyway, Michael Clarke can bowl very handy left arm off spin as well. Three fast bowlers or two (regular) spinners, that's the way to go," he said.
Ponting felt the wickets did not seem to be favouring the batsmen so far and said that they have to really work hard to put up runs on the board.
The Aussie skipper said his side has got used to playing on such pitches over the last few weeks (in Malaysia and here during the warm-up ties before their tournament opener).
"What we have picked up watching television over the last couple of games here is that the conditions are very difficult for batsmen and you have to work really hard for your runs," he said. (Agencies)
