Jaipur, Oct 20: Their pride dented by a shock defeat, Australian captain Ricky Ponting today warned of a backlash from his cornered players in the do-or-die encounter against England here tomorrow. Ponting said he was not concerned by the must-win situation his side found itself in ahead of the Group 'A' encounter as his team was used to handling pressure situations and thriving against all odds.
"We have been used to this situation in this tournament. I don't think it is unusual," Ponting said referring to the fact that Australia have never won the Championship Trophy. "Lots of teams end up in a situation like this, especially if you lose a game early on. The VB Series last year was the same. We lost the first final, had to win the last two and we managed to do that," he said at the pre-match press conference.
"In 1999 World Cup, after a couple of qualifying games we were exactly in the same position. We had to win every game from there on. What it tends to do is bring the best out of our team. We tend to play our best cricket when we are under pump. I expect that we will play very well tomorrow. "The more thinking you do, the more pressure you put on yourself and make it hard. We will be out there enjoying our game and hopefully showcase our skills as best as we can." It is a do-or-die situation for both the teams, Australia having lost to the West Indies and England to India in their first matches respectively. (Agencies)
