Mohali, Oct 25: Stephen Fleming became the most capped skipper in the history of one-day cricket when he strode out to bat in New Zealand's must-win tie against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy here today.
It was the 194th match for the 33-year-old lefthander as skipper, overtaking Arjuna Ranatunga's record of 193.
Under Fleming, New Zealand have won 85 ODIs and lost 95. As many as 12 matches ended in no results while one in a tie.
Fleming has also led the Black Caps in 78 Tests with a win-loss record of 27-26.
The most successful skipper for New Zealand, Fleming, who made both his Test and ODI debut against India at home in 1993-94, took over the captaincy in 1997.
His record as a player also gets a lot of credit, having accumulated 6,545 runs from 102 Tests at an average of 40.15 and 7,273 runs (before today's match) from 255 ODIs at 32.18.
Fleming's famous victories over trans-Tasmanian rivals Australia have been one of the many feathers in his cap. (Agencies)
