News - Team India faces uphill task

Mohali, Oct 28: A beleaguered India suffered a big jolt ahead of their must-win Champions Trophy match against Australia here tomorrow with Yuvraj Singh being ruled out with a ligament injury, a development which is bound to put the home team's struggling batting line-up under more pressure.

Local hero Yuvraj, a key component in India's one-day squad but not in the best of touch at the moment, suffered a ligament tear during practice this morning, setting alarm bells ringing in the Indian camp which desperately needs to win the high-voltage contest to make it to the semi-finals.

The home team will also miss the services of pacer Ajit Agarkar who suffered a thumb fracture in the last match against the West Indies.

His replacement S Sreesanth has reached the venue and had a light practice session in the evening but whether the Kerala speedster is drafted into the team on a track which was expect to help the quickies will be known only tomorrow.

The injury-induced absence of Yuvraj will mean that either Mohammad Kaif or Dinesh Mongia may get an opportunity to play in the crucial floodlit match which promises to be a classic tussle of nerves and skills.(Agencies)
