Jaipur, Nov 2: West Indies skipper Brian Lara today became only the fourth batsman in one-day internationals to hit 1000 boundaries or more during the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa here today.
Lara, just one boundary away from the unique mark when he came out to bat in the day-night clash, hit the four off Robin Peterson to join the elite club, which is headed by Sachin
Tendulkar.
The Indian superstar has 1540 boundaries to his credit followed by Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya on 1239.
Lara, however, could not build on his innings as he departed for 9, he is now 54 runs away from completing 10,000 ODI runs.
His team mate and aggressive batsman Chris Gayle also reached a personal milestone, completing 1000 runs in the year when he reached 10.
It was Gayle's 150th ODI. (Agencies)
