Colombo, August 14: Indian cricketers, here to play in the cricket tri-series, were safe in their hotel rooms when a powerful explosion took place near the Sri Lankan President's residence.
The security arrangements have been tightened further at the team hotel, Taj Samudra, which is about three km from where the explosion took place.
"All the players were in hotel rooms when the blast took place. There is nothing to worry," media manager Rajan Nair told newspersons.
The Indians were scheduled to have a practice session in the morning but it had to be abandoned because of rain.
It was decided the practice would be held in the afternoon, but a fresh downpour forced them to stay indoors.
"We were about to leave for the afternoon session. But had to put off the programme because of rain. So, at the time of the blast, the entire team was in the hotel," Nair said. (Agencies)
