Colombo, August 14: The Sri Lankan cricket authorities today decided to go ahead with the tri-series, involving India and South Africa, despite a powerful bomb explosion near the Sri Lankan President's residence here.
The Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket Duleep Mendis had a meeting with coaches and managers of the three participating teams in the wake of the bomb blast which has left seven dead and injured eight.
After the discussions, it was decided to go ahead with the series and give maximum security to the three teams.
"Security has already been beefed up for the three teams and the tournament will go ahead as per schedule," Sri Lanka Cricket media manager Samantha Algama said.
He said Sri Lanka Cricket was concerned by the security scenario, but is confident that the series will pass off without any untoward incident.
The powerful mine blast took place at Liberty Plaza roundabout, located about three km away from the hotel where the Indian cricket team is staying.
The Indian cricketers were in their rooms in Hotel Taj Samudra when the explosion took place and they are all safe. (Agencies)
