Amit Bhandari to join Indian team
Amit Bhandari, the Delhi medium-pacer, has been enlisted by India as its 17th member for the VB series in Australia.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said in a statement, "The decision to send Bhandari was taken after a request from the team management to strengthen the bowling." The Selection Committee approved the induction of Bhandari.

Bhandari's last performance for India was in the Asia Cup held in Dhaka in 2000 when he played only one game, against Pakistan. He then took wickets for 75 runs. He did well for the India A in the recently concluded Kenstar tournament in Kolkata, involving Sri Lanka A and Pakistan A. He took seven wickets at an average of 21 and delivered whenever required. He also performed well in the Challenger's Trophy in 2003.

The Indian team has been plagued by injuries in Australia particularly to its bowlers. Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the VB Series, while Ashish Nehra has been encountering fitness problems off and on. Harbhajan Singh is already out of the series.
