Kolkata,
Nov 19: Describing the coming Aussie trip as the toughest
challenge of his stint as Indian coach, John Wright today
admitted that India would start as underdogs against the
world's best side. "The trip Down Under will be a tough
challenge. It will be the toughest tour since I came to
India and joined as coach," Wright told newspersons
before leaving for the airport.
"They
are rated as the No 1 team of the world. You have to be
realistic... we will start as underdogs," the former
Kiwi skipper said. Wright said Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly,
who had to opt out of the tri-series final against the same
side here yesterday due to a pulled groin muscle, would have
no problem in embarking on the 82-day trip.
The
Indian team is scheduled to leave for Australia from Chennai
on November 21 to play four Tests
as also a tri-series involving Zimbabwe as the third nation.
"It (Ganguly not turning out at Eden Gardens) was a
touch-and-go affair yesterday. He just couldn't make it.
It's a minor injury. He should even have no problem in
playing the two three-day games ahead of the Tests," he
said.
"We
are hoping that he will be alright before the tour
begins," Wright said. (Agencies)
