Brett Lee is back
Melbourne,
Dec 22: Paceman Brett Lee will return from injury to lead
Australia's bowling attack in the third cricket test against
India starting Friday. Lee, who missed the first two tests
following ankle surgery and an abdominal injury, is the only
change to the 12-man squad beaten in Adelaide last week. He
comes in for Jason Gillespie, who suffered a groin injury in
the second test.
Selectors
kept faith with Andy Bichel, Brad Williams and Nathan
Bracken despite intense speculation that they might opt for
a fresh fast bowler to support Lee. Chairman of selectors
Trevor Hohns said Lee had proven his fitness in two domestic
four-day games. "Brett is an established test player
and has demonstrated that he is back to full fitness
following injury," said Hohns.
"Brett
always adds some zest to the attack and will be supported by
our other bowlers who we felt, despite the loss, served the
side well in Adelaide", he added. Bracken was retained
in the team despite being 12th man in Adelaide, meaning
there was no room for Matthew Nicholson, who was the pick of
the pacemen in the match between India and Australia A in
Hobart over the weekend.
After the
first match of the series was drawn, Australia needs to win
the final two tests if it is to regain the Border-Gavaskar
Trophy in captain Steve Waugh's final series. Australia.
