ESPN covers ODI live
After the exciting Test series against Australia on India’s tour Down Under, ESPN STAR Sports, Asia’s most popular network, will bring you live and exclusive coverage of what promises to be an equally thrilling Triangular One-Day tournament involving India, Australia and Zimbabwe from January 9. Each team will play the other two teams four times in the league matches before the top two teams lock horns in a 3-match final from February 6 to 10.
Though history does not favour India, the question on the minds of fans and pundits alike is, can India outperform the world champions after a splendid performance in the Test series. The Indian middle-order has been blazing guns in the just concluded Test series and is expected to test the bowling attack of the Aussies in three
ODIs.
India hasn’t got much to write home about its one-day encounters in Australia in over 20 years except when they won the World Champions Cup in 1985 under the shrewd leadership of Sunil Gavaskar. In the 1980-81 season, India lost to Australia 1-4. In 1985-86 the Australians defeated India 5-2 and increased the victory margin to 5-1 in 1991-92. On India’s last tour of Australia in 1999-2000 under batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, the Aussies made a 4-0 clean sweep.
Australia’s record at home is awesome, with the Aussie batting order firing on all cylinders under Ricky Ponting. Zimbabweans, on the other hand, will surely feel pressurised by the big brothers in the fray. They have not yet been able to steady their gait after Andy Flower retired prematurely.
All in all, the tri-series promises quite a tussle. Watch it live and exclusive on ESPN.
