Sydney, Feb 27 Cricket Australia (CA) held an emergency meeting this morning to consider opening batsman Matthew Hayden's controversial remarks about Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, whom he called "an obnoxious little weed" yesterday.

No immediate word was available if and what action CA will take against Hayden but there were speculation that he would be let off with a fine.

CA Chief James Sutherland has assured the BCCI that they are looking into the offensive remarks made by Hayden against Harbhajan.

BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah has sent an e-mail to Indian team manager Vimal Soni, advising him not to react to Hayden's comments in view of Sutherland's assurance.

Meanwhile, the press conference called by the CA in Melbourne is regarding an announcement by spinner Brad Hogg that he is retiring from international cricket.

The 37-year-old left-arm spinner has played seven Test matches and 121 one-day games and his retirement would create a spin crisis in Australian team as comeback of Stuart MacGill, recuperating after hand surgery, is still doubtful. (Agencies)
